Emerging from the fringes of metal’s experimental underground, Shane Lentz is stepping once more into the spotlight with his boldest and most introspective work to date. His upcoming solo album, APHOTIC | LIMINAL | NIHIL, set for release on April 25, 2025, is a fearless descent into the vastness of space—and the even greater abyss within.

More than just an album, APHOTIC | LIMINAL | NIHIL is an existential odyssey. Fusing the relentless force of extreme metal with the ghostly atmospheres of shoegaze and blackgaze, Lentz constructs a sonic monolith that mirrors the overwhelming scale of the cosmos. It’s raw, celestial, and utterly uncompromising.

While APHOTIC | LIMINAL | NIHIL may be Lentz’s most complete and personal work, it’s not his first foray into boundary-pushing metal. His previous solo releases—The Hollowing Abyss (2024), The Solitude of Discovery (2021), and Reverse Horizons (2014)—have established him as a key figure in atmospheric and progressive metal circles.

Beyond his solo work, Lentz’s resume includes collaborations with bands like Kamikabe, Ys, and Cabaret Runaway, as well as a high-profile contribution to Jeff Loomis’ 2012 opus Plains of Oblivion, which saw mainstream success with five placements on U.S. Billboard charts.

But with APHOTIC | LIMINAL | NIHIL, Shane Lentz isn’t just contributing—he’s commanding. The album is not only a sonic achievement, but a philosophical statement: one man’s confrontation with the infinite, and a reminder that sometimes the heaviest thing in the universe is the weight of thought itself.
