Two decades in the making, the debut full-length album "XX" by progressive extreme metal band 54 is finally here. Formed in 2004 in the Norwegian countryside and later migrating to Oslo, 54 was born from a shared passion for experimental heavy music and a deep fascination with the patterns of theoretical mathematics. The band now emerges from the shadows of time with a record that defies convention and embraces evolution.
The story of 54 is one of friendship, distance, and persistence. After releasing their first demo, PHI, the members were scattered across Europe by life, family, and time. Yet the idea behind 54—a sonic exploration of structure, chaos, and the mathematics of emotion—never disappeared. Instead, it grew in silence.
"XX" represents the culmination of 20 years of growth, blending the brutal force of extreme metal with intricate progressive compositions. Expect fractal-inspired rhythms, chaotic yet calculated structures, and a sound that mirrors the complexity of life itself. Drawing from the Hero’s Journey, the album is both a conclusion and a rebirth.
