Glasgow-based band Hippy, the collaboration between singer-songwriter Paul "Hippy" Hipson and guitarist Hugh Frizell, is thrilled to announce the release of their latest single, "Tupilaq". Available now on all major digital platforms, the track has already garnered significant praise from fans and critics, with BBC Radio Scotland’s Billy Sloan championing the song on his prominent Saturday night show.
Hippy, formed in September 2019 following a chance meeting between Paul and Hugh, began as an acoustic duo before expanding their lineup in 2022 to meet growing demand for a larger live sound. The addition of Johnny D on bass, G-Man on drums, and more recently, Benjamin Emerson on keys, has solidified the band’s dynamic and multifaceted style.
Early singles such as "Junkyard Babies" and "Volunteer" set the tone for the band's infectious melodies and heartfelt lyrics, earning national radio airplay and a dedicated fanbase. Their two studio albums, Behind Every Song Is a Story (2020) and Falling In Love With Being Alive (2021), were met with widespread acclaim, cementing their reputation as one of Glasgow’s most exciting musical acts.
"Tupilaq" represents a new high for the band, showcasing their ability to blend captivating storytelling with a richly textured soundscape. The song has been well-received by radio stations both in the UK and internationally, further solidifying Hippy’s status as a rising force in modern music.
The band has also built a strong reputation for their electrifying live performances, having played headline shows at renowned Glasgow venues such as Room2, BAAD, and McChuills, as well as local festivals. With more live dates and new releases planned for 2025, Hippy is poised to continue their upward trajectory.
