British musician Matthew John Watts, previously known to electronic music aficionados as Dogmixer and Debunkt, signals a significant departure from his electronic explorations to the rich, complex soundscapes of alternative electronic and psychedelic rock. The inspiration for the lyrics of "Chasing Demons" comes from observing the human tendency to misdirect efforts when solving problems, often preferring to punch down (attack those at the bottom) rather than punch up (attack the elites), which is rather fitting given the recent far-right riots in the UK.
The "demon in the sky" reflects the phenomenon of demagogue worship, where humans, throughout history, tend to seek simple but fallible solutions rather than digging deeper for the truth and tackling the real source of problems.
Both tracks on the single were recorded at Matt's home studio across several European cities, including Seville, Antwerp, and now Dublin, where he currently resides. Matt is also looking forward to live performances once work on his forthcoming album, also called The Willful Deaf, is finished. He aims to collaborate with other musicians and visual artists to bring his studio creations to life on stage.
Both tracks on this release were mixed by Dibs at Lucky7 Studios in Ossining, NY, and mastered by Toby Campen Mastering. The single is now available on all major digital platforms!
