Adiant Unveils Concept Album “Witches Dance” — A Journey Through the Dark History of the Witch Trials

Today, Austrian melodic metal band Adiant releases “Witches Dance,” an ambitious concept album that delves into the haunting legacy of the witch trials. Structured as a powerful narrative, “Witches Dance” centers on the character of a witch who faces betrayal, persecution, and ultimately the tragic fate of many women deemed “heretics” by the inquisition.

Each track on “Witches Dance” unveils a chapter in this evocative journey. In Track 6, “Heresy,” Adiant examines the things now considered normal but once condemned, offering a chilling perspective from the clergy, represented by powerful growls, against heretics. “The Betrayal” and “Forsaken” convey the witch’s plight, torn from her hiding place and grappling with society’s relentless prejudice. “Inquisition” further intensifies this theme, drawing on Franz Liszt’s Spanish Rhapsody for a relentless hymn of condemnation. The climactic “The Cleansing” depicts her burning, while the haunting piano solo “L'Inferno” symbolizes her journey through the abyss, finding peace in a better place.

Beyond historical tragedy, “Witches Dance” resonates with modern themes of identity and oppression. Songs like “Lighthearted” reflect on self-acceptance, and “Psychosis” speaks to mental health struggles, with the witch’s story symbolizing any marginalized group ostracized by a society intolerant of differences.

Musically, Adiant delivers an innovative blend of melodic metal with dialogues between clean and growled vocals, presenting the afflicted individual versus society. The contrasting vocal dynamics add depth, highlighting the character’s inner struggle and the clergy’s unforgiving wrath.
